how you can become a docent
it's not that hard
Start with our fall training course.
We'll learn a little bit about many fascinating subjects:
plants, mammals, birds, insects, reptiles and amphibians, Native Americans,
geology, weather and how they're all related. The sessions are taught by
scientists, educators and other local experts.
We'll also spend at least one training session exploring how to share our love of the natural world. And there are walks with experienced Docents so new Docents can see how it's done. There's no test. You don't have to become a scientist. Your enthusiasm and interest are all you need.
Our training course is excellent AND fun! Local residents, docents from Cold Creek, Malibu Creek and RCD and other organizations take our training course. We'd like you to start leading walks after you complete our course, but there is no obligation.
what's in it for you
do something worthwhile outdoors
First, it's fun. You'll get our monthly newsletter, Wild Times, which includes a schedule of museum visits, trips to the desert, and other outings docents created just for themselves. You'll get an invitation to our annual Spring Campout in the Santa Monica Mountains, where you and your family can relax, do crafts, learn a little more natural history, and join our potluck. You'll meet a fascinating group of docents. But most important, you'll get an opportunity to contribute. You'll discover the power of introducing people to the outdoors and to our parks, and the joy of sharing your love of nature.
come join us - we're looking forward to meeting you!

fall 2008 training class We're just starting to plan for this class. It's ten Saturdays starting in mid-September. We'll have local experts in a variety of fields, and it's held at the Nature Center at Trippet Ranch, in Topanga State Park. It's fun, it's fascinating, it's friendly. Plus there will be walks in the park with experienced docents to familiarize trainees with the trails and with leading. If you have questions you can send an email to info@tc-docents.org, or phone us at 310-455-1696. |
